Since Hungary is an EU member, the country has pretty strict import rules from different regions. Here, we will cover all the basics that you need to know for shipments to Hungary, from various places of origin.

EU member imports

When it comes to EU to EU deliveries, the restrictions are usually more laid back than those for imports coming from other regions and no special customs duty is applied. The same applies in Hungary as well, as a typical checkup is basically all that's needed.

UK imports

Since the UK is no longer a member of the EU, imports from the UK to Hungary are treated as those coming in from non-EU regions, which results in additional customs duty as well as heavier restrictions and more taxes.

For shipments from the UK to Hungary, you'll need the following documents:

• Commercial invoice - a Commercial invoice, otherwise known as a Customs declaration is required by the UK government for all shipments leaving the UK and entering EU territory.
• EORI number - this ID number will be used to track your shipment when it travels in the EU.

Like other members of the EU, Hungary forces restrictions on certain items coming into the country. We recommend carefully studying the list of items that are either restricted or outright banned before packing your parcel for delivery.

Banned import items to Hungary

Below is a list of items that are banned by the Hungarian government for import to the country, without any exceptions.

• All types of alcoholic beverages
• Animal skins and products
• Bearer and diplomatic documents
• Coffee (including samples)
• Perishable goods
• Tobacco
• Tea

Unlike many other EU countries, Hungary has pretty loose rules when it comes to imports of items that aren't banned outright. In fact, it is said that around 95 percent of items coming into the country don't need a license at all.

Restrictions are set on these product types, however:

• Firearms and military equipment
• Pyrotechnics
• Radioactive materials and others.

When it comes to volumetric weight and size, these are very important factors in order to send a parcel to Hungary following the same rules as other members of the union, where a 30 or 50 kilogram limit is placed for one shipment.

It's not uncommon however that those sending the items, especially businesses, want to ship parcels that are heavier than that, but find themselves in violation of these restrictions. Luckily, we know how to solve this.

All you have to do is split the parcel into multiple parts and you will be good to go. Let's say you're sending something that weighs in at around 130 kilograms. Separating them into parts of 30 kg + 30 kg + 30 kg + 10 kg) will cost a bit extra, but will allow you to follow the rules.

Largely, this depends on the type of offer you've selected from one of our courier partners. In general, 1-3 days is the optimal average that many couriers follow.

If you're focused entirely on speed of delivery, purchasing an express delivery option will likely be your best bet in terms of quickness. However, this does usually cost a bit more compared to a regular shipping option.
