An Post Parcel Delivery and Tracking
An Post is Ireland's national postal service. It served 2.507 million addresses in 2025, runs the post office network and sends post abroad through the postal services of the destination countries.
This page covers An Post tracking and what its statuses mean, the services for sending a parcel within Ireland and to other EU countries, parcel lockers and post offices, customs forms and missed deliveries. The form above compares courier prices for your route.

What is An Post?
An Post is a Designated Activity Company owned by the Irish State: government ministers hold its shares, and its registered office is the General Post Office on O'Connell Street in Dublin. In 2025 it delivered 73 million parcels and contract packets and 294 million letters, and its post office network numbered 879 at the end of the year.
It carries letters and parcels through post offices, PostPoints and parcel lockers, with account services, prepaid labels and collections for business senders.
Integrations Supported
Online shop platforms you can connect to Ecoparcel.
How to track your An Post parcel
Only items sent with a tracked service can be followed, using the tracking number on anpost.com or in the An Post app. The box on this page finds Ecoparcel orders only, by Order ID and postcode.
- Find the tracking number on your post office receipt or on the postage label: two letters, nine digits and two letters, for example RR123456789IE. The Trans Ref ID on the receipt is not a tracking number.
- Enter it in Track & Trace on anpost.com, up to five items at a time, or open the item in the An Post app.
- Read the latest scan. Tracking updates through the day as the item moves through the network, and where a signature was captured the item history offers a proof of delivery as a PDF.
Understanding An Post tracking statuses
These are the stages An Post explains on its own help and service pages.
- Sender/retailer has shared details of your item to An Post: the sender has passed the item data to An Post, but the item has not been received yet.
- The item has left An Post: an outbound item has been handed to the postal service of the destination country. Until that service scans it, the item is still in transit on its way there.
- Out for delivery: the item has been processed at the local delivery unit and is on the delivery route.
- Delivered: the item has been delivered; a safe spot delivery comes with a photo in your An Post account.
How to send a parcel with An Post
At the post office counter, staff weigh the item, price it and print the label. With Click & Post you calculate the postage online, pay, print the label at home and drop the parcel at one of over 900 post offices, PostPoints and parcel lockers.
To compare couriers for the same parcel through Ecoparcel:
- Enter the collection and delivery countries, postcodes and the parcel size and weight in the form above.
- Compare the offers by price, delivery time and hand-over type: Door2Door, Door2Locker, Locker2Door or Locker2Locker, where the route offers them.
- Pick an offer, fill in the sender, recipient and contents details and pay.
- Print the label from My Orders under Documents and hand the parcel over as the chosen service describes.
An Post delivery options
An Post delivers to the door. A recipient with an An Post account sets up to two delivery backup options, one for home and one for work: a safe, dry place out of view or a neighbour. When nobody is in, the item is left there and a photo of the spot stays in the account for 7 calendar days. Registered Post has to be signed for, so it never goes to a backup location.
An Post parcel lockers are free to use for collecting, sending and returning parcels. When a parcel reaches a locker you get an access PIN by SMS; it waits 48 hours and then goes back to the delivery depot for five more days. To send or return, you scan the prepaid label at the locker bank and place the parcel inside.
An Post service types
Standard Post covers letters, large envelopes, packets and parcels, normally delivered within Ireland one to two days after posting. Express Post delivers by close of business the next working day within Ireland, with online tracking and an insured value based on the value declared at posting, up to EUR 350. Registered Post is signed for on delivery and comes with proof of posting and compensation tied to the declared value.
For abroad, Standard International Post is the basic service. Express Post International carries letters, large envelopes and packets up to 2 kg to 21 European countries and a few other destinations, with delivery confirmed online but no signature and no insurance. The International Courier Service, delivered by An Post and DHL Express, carries items up to 20 kg with a guaranteed delivery time or your money back. International Registered Post is for documents up to 2 kg: since 3 February 2026 it no longer carries goods, and An Post offers Insured Post for those instead.
An Post weekend deliveries, working hours and cut-off times
An Post counts working days as Monday to Friday and excludes Saturdays, Sundays, Good Friday and bank or public holidays. Express Post posted on Friday before the latest posting time is guaranteed for delivery nationwide on Monday. The Christmas calendar adds a few weekend days. International delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed.
International shipping with An Post
Post for abroad is sorted at one of An Post's national mail centres and sent by air or road to the postal service of the destination country, which handles the rest of the journey and the tracking; Standard International Post is quoted at about three to seven working days. The International Courier Service runs next day to the EU, one to three days to the rest of Europe and one to five days to the rest of the world, from selected post offices.
Goods sent to EU countries, but not to Northern Ireland, need an Aviation Security Declaration attached to the packet or parcel. Parcels to destinations outside the EU need a customs declaration: the CN22 for items up to EUR 300 and the CP72 above that.
An Post parcel requirements, labels and customs documents
An Post prices post in four categories: letter or postcard, large envelope, packet and parcel. A packet weighs up to 2 kg, with length, width and depth adding up to no more than 900 mm and no side over 600 mm. A parcel weighs up to 20 kg, at most 1.5 m long and 3 m in length plus girth, and a large light item is charged by its dimensional weight.
A Click & Post label is printed at home or at the post office and fixed to the parcel before drop-off. Fill in any customs declaration with the contents, value and origin. Keep the receipt: it carries the tracking number, and proof of posting is needed for a compensation claim.
An Post for business and e-commerce
An Post Commerce serves online sellers with next day delivery, returns solutions, prepaid bags and boxes, a Business Shipping account and an eCommerce Hub for international delivery that plugs into platforms such as Shopify and Magento. A business sending more than 40 parcels a week can become a parcels account holder; smaller senders order prepaid labels, valid in the Republic of Ireland only.
Online shops can also connect their store to Ecoparcel through the Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop and Etsy integrations and print labels from My Orders under Documents.
An Post delivery problems, returns and claims
When nobody is home and no safe spot is set, An Post leaves a "Sorry we missed you" notice and holds the item at the local Delivery Service Unit for 5 working days for Standard and Express Post, 3 working days for Registered Post and 16 working days for items from abroad. The recipient books a redelivery online, which takes about 3 to 5 working days, or collects the item with the notice and photo ID. Unclaimed items go back to the sender.
If standard post has not arrived within five working days of posting, or 15 days for international post, contact An Post. Missing, damaged or opened post is reported through the An Post contact form. Registered Post compensation follows the declared value, EUR 25 at most if none was declared, with a one-month claim window for items sent within Ireland. Returns to online shops are booked through Click & Post with no printing needed, dropped at a post office or collected from your door.
An Post customer service and responsibilities
A parcel posted with An Post is An Post's responsibility: tracking, redelivery, customs charges and claims all go through anpost.com, the app or the post office. For a parcel ordered from an online shop, the shop is the first contact.
An order booked through Ecoparcel is handled by Ecoparcel. Questions about the label, the pickup, tracking, a failed delivery or a claim go to Ecoparcel support with the Order ID.
